Bagheria, also known as the 'Citta delle Ville' or city of the villas, was popular for the summer residences of Palermo nobility during the 17th and 18th centuries. The spectacular coastline east of Palermo, is highlighted with historic tuna fishing yards (Tonnare), castles, opulent villas, ancient Greek ruins and scenic fishing ports. Bagheria was also the setting in the films 'Baaria' and 'Nuovo Cinema Paradiso' by local film director Giuseppe Tornatore.
