Ragusa, part of the Unesco World Heritage site of the Baroque Towns of the Val di Noto, in south-eastern Sicily, Italy

n the early spring I was traveling on assignment through south eastern Sicily to the Unesco World Heritage listed towns of Ragusa, Modica and Noto.

Here in the sun-drenched village of Ragusa, during the early afternoon hours of pranzo and siesta, the streets are deserted as families gather to feast together on traditional home-cooked meals prepared with much enthusiasm and mouthwatering fresh local produce.

The irresistible smells of steaming seasoned vegetables and fresh pasta, fill the streets, where a handful of curious tourists snap away at the beautifully decrepit, Baroque stone facades and ancient houses stacked atop of each other, with a view to the valley beyond.
